Fishing

The New River has some of the best smallmouth bass and muskie fishing in the state. Also abundant are catfish, crappie, bluegills, redeyes, and in some locations, largemouth bass. A valid freshwater license is required to fish the New River.  The New River is claimed to be the second oldest river in the world, the oldest river in North America and one of the few rivers that flows north. Rising from the crystal clear springs around Boone and Blowing Rock, NC. it flows north into the Ohio River and is close to 200 yards wide when passing through the Eagle View area.
